DSDN 112 Project2B Final video

For my video, I chose to use animation to describe the idea of using my navigation application. Besides I really want to show the differences before and after using my app, so I narrated the story three parts.

I drew the cartoon characters and also made the funny sound effects by myself. Enjoying for watching the video!

DSDN 112 Project 2 PartA Final - 200 words

Pathfinder

I am kind of person who is just lack of sense of direction, so I would really appreciate if someone could lead me all the way. Instead of finding a reliable person to count on when I am lost, I think it would be better to have a tool that is willingly guide me all the time.

A navigating tool seems to be so important since there are so many buildings out there and inside it is just like a maze. Personally, I have been lost in Kelburn campus in many different ways, and a navigating tool for me is almost like a hope.

For my Path Finder, I focus on making it more friendly and thoughtful, thus I do not want add too many irrelevant functions, which could only complicate the app. Pathfinder is expert on finding ways anywhere within Kelburn campus, every user would be treated as kids by this useful app.

The start page leads users to a simple homepage of composition of “room search” bar and a top view campus map. If taking a close look, there are quite a few of functional buttons. First of all, a triangle button on the right top, users would find their own location by tapping it. After making sure own location, go to the search bar and type into the location you are particularly looking at, and tap the search icon. It would take few seconds to route the way between you and your destination.

After finishing locating the destination building, users are allowed to tap on the building’s icon in order to see detailed map of the certain level. From the top view, users can clearly see the information of this level especially where the stairs or elevator are, as well as a little pop up window, which shows how many level the building is.

DSDN 112 Ideas

As "the marauder's map" in film Harry Porter, which is not as simple as we are capable of comprehending. Complication in the map seems to only magnify more fascination of reading map itself. I like the way of presenting something interesting like this.

DSDN112 Project 1 Object Description

WATER BOTTLE

The most important part of my project is how I let people behave in the way I want, which is relating to the trust. Therefore, I need to make people believe something else is something.

My object consists of four exactly same plastic bottles and one rectangular plastic box.

The four same plastic bottles are filled up with  four  different color and flavor of drinkable liquid, and the other plastic box is filled with real water.

Secondly, I make a non-transparent plastic cover wrapped around the  four  same plastic bottles. And I place the  four  plastic bottles into the plastic box, which is  four  times as one plastic bottle mentioned. Moreover, I will let the plastic cover leave a gap at the bottom of the plastic box in order to make sure people can see the water inside.

Thirdly, 12 straws are plugged through the same number of holes I made on the top of the plastic box. Some straws are really led into the four plastic bottles while the other are into the bottom of the plastic box just for cheating.

Basically, people would taste different flavor and color of drinks through all the 12 straws. They would consider that interesting since they are only allow to see gaps around the bottom of the whole object, which is the real water.

Introduction
This object combines our vision with taste, which is to surprise the potential users, who are likely played tricks. The tricks are transferred into visually expectation, which is not going to interactively work as what people expect at all. So I want to emphasize the idea that do not throw 100 percent trust to what you see, by playing around the sense of vision and taste.

DSDN 112 Project1 Proposal, Storyboard and quick model mockup

I am going to create an object, which will combine our vision with taste. My idea of making this object is to surprise the potential users, who are likely played tricks. I will be transferring the tricks into visually expectation, which is not going to interactively work as what people expect at all. So I want to emphasize the idea that do not throw 100 percent trust to what you see, by playing around the sense of vision and taste.

The most important part of my project is how I let people behave in the way I want, which is relating to the trust. Therefore, I need to make people believe something else is something.

Firstly, I will select three exactly same plastic bottles and one different glass bottle as my very beginning.

I will fill up the three same plastic bottles with three different types of drinkable liquid, and the other glass bottle will be filled with real water.

Secondly, I will make a non-transparent plastic cover wrapped around the three same plastic bottles. And I will place the three plastic bottles upon the glass bottle, which is three times as one plastic bottle mentioned. Moreover, I will let the plastic cover leave a gap at the bottom of the glass bottle in order to make sure people can see the water inside.

Thirdly, I will use a wire as roller put in the middle of the three plastic bottles, to hold up the last but not least, the flat lid cover that I will make for the whole object. The wire is expected to stick out of the lid so that you can roll around the lid. I will cut a hole for the entrance of the three same plastic bottles so that you can choose which liquid you want to pour out while roll around the cover-lid.
